Daniel, this is an excellent post.
You are absolutely right. The enterprise and consumer Q&A market are completely different.
MindQuilt and Opzi address a fundamental issue in enterprise Q&A, enterprise KM, and enterprise collaboration.
I was surprised to learn that nobody at the TechDisrupt Panel really understood the value proposition of Opzi (=MindQuilt). Most of the questions coming from the panel were completely off-field and missing the point. Enterprise Q&A -contrary to what the panel thought- is not about email search, doc search or BI analytics... I was particularly puzzled to see how on earth a VP of Search at Google was missing the point completely. I tweeted about all this but the audience was more interested in location badges and pointless talking-robot location agents.

The core matter is fundamentally related to what you mention regarding security, information confidentiality, auditability, compliance, and collaboration (and data governance I would add). I know that many big corporations, banks, insurance firms, etc struggle with all this and have not found the right solution to enterprise Q&A yet.

A bundled solution that combines say Documentum (or any CMS/KM engine)+ Business Intelligence (SAP BOBJ, Oracle)+ email search+ xls sheets is clearly *not* the solution.

As a side note, I was both lucky and unfortunate enough to participate in a previous startup in which we burnt +$2 Million trying to develop a custom enterprise Q&A analysis solution for SAP platforms; we failed miserably despite the corporate demand.

As I said, great post. And keep going, I believe MindQuilt is a great solution that -if rightly positioned- has a lot of potential in enterprise environments.

Thanks, Regards. Empiricator
